The Reverend Melanie Vaughn-West grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Melanie received her Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. After ordination by Oakhurst Baptist Church in 2001, Melanie served as Pastor of Broadneck Baptist Church in Annapolis, Maryland, from the fall of 2001 to the spring of 2007.
She holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to attending seminary, she was employed in public relations for the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and as a TV news reporter in Denison,Texas.
Melanie and her husband, Paul West, live in Decatur, Georgia, with their retired racing greyhounds, Mercy and Charlie. Paul, a graduate of Georgia Tech, is a civil engineer working for NewFields in Atlanta.
Melanie loves studying and talking about Family Systems Theory, the Enneagram, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. She is interested in contemplative spirituality and faith development. She loves to explore the subtle and surprising ways that God communicates with God’s children, especially through dreams and animals.
