On Oct.14 members of Oakhurst Baptist Church will step off for the 14th year of participation in the Pride Parade in Atlanta. The parade begins at 1:00 and marches from the Civic Center Marta Station and ends in Piedmont Park. This year we will have two floats in the parade, one for people to ride on and one for the Gospel Choir who will be performing along the route. The participation in the parade is coordinated by the Rainbow Covenant Group and ALL are invited to join in.
It should be an exciting time and usually one which is memorable, especially if you've never participated before. Our witness to the crowd is certainly meaningful to both our group and those in the crowd who see a Baptist Church which is both welcoming and affirming. The expressions and tears which we see on the faces of some in the crowd attest to the power of our witnessing presence. For all those who would like to join us, we will assemble and decorate the float on West
Peachtree Street, north of Ralph McGill, beginning at 10:30 if you would like to help with the decorations. If you would like to join us and march or ride in the Parade, just be there by 12:45 as we makefinal preparations to step off. Everyone is asked to wear an Oakhurst T-shirt of any vintage and if you can't seem to locate one, just weara bright colorful shirt. Our location in the Parade varies from year to year but we are usually at the finishing point around 2:30 and youwill have the choice of leaving the float and enjoying the activities in the park or staying on the float for the ride back to OBC. We look forward to this year and hope many of you will be able to join us!
