Help us celebrate and mark this holiest of weeks at Oakhurst Baptist Church.
Thursday, March 24, 6:30 pm: Maundy Thursday Service
Service of Communion and Foot Washing
We gather to share communion in the spirit of Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples. All who wish may also participate as givers and receivers in the washing of feet. This service can be meaningful for elementary-age children as it allows them to experience the drama of Jesus’ last night with his disciples.
Friday, March 25, 7:30 pm: Good Friday: A Service of Tenebrae
We read the Passion narrative and extinguish candles one by one, finally carrying the Christ candle out of the sanctuary, leaving only darkness and a bare altar. We leave to wait, keeping vigil with our knowledge of Jesus' suffering and death, until we gather Easter morning.
Saturday, March 26, 12:00 p.m. Lunch and Easter Egg Hunt
Hosted by Carolyn and Billy Hall
Our Easter egg hunt for Preschoolers through Fifth Grade is scheduled for the Saturday before Easter, at the Hall’s house at 2126 N. Ponce de Leon Avenue, Atlanta. Lunch begins at noon; the hunt begins at 1pm. Parents are requested to bring a side dish to go with hot dogs for the lunch, and also bring at least 12 candy-filled plastic eggs per child that they bring, to be hidden for the Easter Egg hunt.
Sunday, March 27, 11:00 am: Easter Sunday, A Celebration of Resurrection
We gather to joyfully celebrate our risen Christ! Our Oakhurst tradition is to decorate a large cross in the sanctuary with flowers on Easter morning. Bring a small bouquet or sprig of flowers for yourself and some extra to share with visitors and others who might have forgotten. And don’t forget: you are invited to join us on the platform for the singing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah that always closes this memorable service. Please bring a copy of the score, if you have one.
