How Can I Keep From Singing?

How Can I Keep From Singing?

Often doesn’t it seem like the question should be, “How can I keep on singing?”  Nevertheless, this Sunday at Oakhurst Baptist the Gospel and Sanctuary Choirs will lead us in a musical meditation on all the ways that singing literally gives voice to everything we experience, from ecstatic joy to deep sorrow and loss.  We will sing anthems ranging from the gospel music of Shirley Caesar to a harrowing setting of “He Never Said a Mumblin’ Word” by African American composer Adolphus Hailstork.  The words of Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore, American poets Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, and Wendell Berry, and theologian James H. Cone will be our companions.  Expect to be challenged, uplifted, and moved!
