SOUND THE CALL |

|
If an Oakhurst member senses a call from God to be on mission in a
particular area and finds that no existing mission group or regular church committee
exists through which this call can be explored, that person may sound a call for the
formation of a new mission group. A person sounding a call must answer three questions
affirmatively:
- Is the call incredibly Good News to you? God does not call us to things out of a sense
of guilt or dread. No major undertaking should be started without a sense that it is Good
News.
- Is the call almost impossible to accomplish? God does not call us to small or simple
tasks, and does not leave us to our own strengths. The vision of what God is calling us to
must be worthy of the Kingdom.
- Is there a good chance that you will fail? We remember God's love and grace are
constant, regardless of the outcome or success. Our responsibility is to be faithful to
our perception of God's call.
The church has also taken opportunities to look at call regularly. God calls each of us
to particular tasks in the church, in our families, and in the world. Although God may
call us to large and seemingly impossible tasks, God also may call us to smaller
activities that we find quite do-able. A worship service held during the Pentecost season
offers prayer and laying on of hands to those who wish to have prayer for discernment or
their individual call affirmed. |
