Decatur Cooperative Ministry and Hagar’s House

Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) brings people together to serve the community. Founded in 1969, DCM is a faith-based nonprofit organization supported by over 35 congregations from 14 denominations. Oakhurst Baptist Church was a founding congregation and channels many of its ministries to the homeless through DCM.

Decatur Cooperative Ministry believes there is a light at the beginning, middle and end of the tunnel through homelessness and wants to help shine that light. By offering comprehensive services and partnering with other mission-minded people and organizations, DCM helps families prevent, endure and overcome homelessness.

Oakhurst Baptist Church supports DCM’s budget through the Oakhurst mission budget and regularly volunteers to provide meals to the residents of Hagar’s House. Members of our church join together in preparing and serving supper to Hagar House. We also join residents for this evening meal.

DCM offers:

  • Emergency shelter for women with children through Hagar House
  • Long-term transitional housing for families with children
  • Bill payment to prevent eviction, foreclosure, or utility cut-off through Project Take Charge
  • Food for households at risk of hunger
