Lucas Johnson -“Is America Possible” Workshop

Rev. Lucas Johnson

Rev. Lucas Johnson kicked off his “Is America Possible?” Storytelling Workshop tour at Oakhurst on April 26th. He preached in worship and led a bring-your-own lunch and discussion time in the Fellowship Hall afterward.
Lucas is a graduate of the Candler School of Theology. He was ordained by Oakhurst Baptist Church and maintains close connections to our congregation, although he lives in Amsterdam now.
From April and continuing through 2026, Lucas will be traveling around the country as a part of his “Is America Possible?” project, to tell and draw out stories of the movement, to help us remember (ourselves to each other), and to invite us to imagine the country we want to live in. This storytelling workshop tour is being developed with support and partnership from Union Theological Seminary’s National Storytelling Initiative on Christian Faith and Life.
Lucas is an organizer, writer, and public theologian who holds space and facilitates connection across political, cultural, and other divides. He is trained in the philosophy and practice of nonviolence, and is rooted in the black freedom struggle that found expression in the movement to expand democracy in the United States.
It was exciting to welcome Lucas back home, and to help him launch his “Is America Possible?” project.
