Lucas Johnson on April 26

Rev. Lucas Johnson

Rev. Lucas Johnson will be preaching on April 26 as part of his “Is America Possible?” storytelling workshop.
Bring your lunch with you so that you can be a part of the continued conversation in the Fellowship Hall after worship.
Lucas is an organizer, writer, and public theologian who holds space and facilitates connection across political, cultural, and other divides. He is trained in the philosophy and practice of nonviolence, and is rooted in the black freedom struggle that found expression in the movement to expand democracy in the United States.
From April 4 and continuing through 2026, Lucas will be traveling around the country as a part of his “Is America Possible?” project, to tell and draw out stories of the movement, to help us remember (ourselves to each other), and to invite us to imagine the country we want to live in. This storytelling workshop tour is being developed with support and partnership from Union Theological Seminary’s National Storytelling Initiative on Christian Faith and Life.
Lucas is a graduate of the Candler School of Theology. He was ordained by Oakhurst Baptist Church and maintains close connections to our congregation, although he lives in Amsterdam now.
We are excited to welcome Lucas back home, and to help him launch his “Is America Possible?” project.
