I’m New

Oakhurst is an inclusive congregation that welcomes people of all ages, gender-identities, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, various physical and mental abilities, and other distinctions.

We believe we are on a spiritual journey together, learning as we go, and you do not need to have or subscribe to a certain set of beliefs to journey along with us.

We have sought to follow Christ in facing issues of:

  • racial integration
  • women’s rights
  • homelessness
  • poverty
  • 12-step recovery
  • LGBTQ and marriage-equality rights
  • peace and non-violent action
  • disability rights
  • church hierarchy
  • immigration rights
  • and other issues of justice.

There exists now a firmly rooted culture of faithfulness to Baptist and Christian traditions, coupled with a kinship to a multi-cultural, inter-faith world.

What to Expect

At Oakhurst you will find a diverse group of people in terms of age, sexual orientation, gender-identity, race, physical and mental ability and other distinctions.

Oakhurst is just as diverse in what we wear. Many people come to Sunday morning service dressed in jeans. Some people will be wearing dresses. What you probably won’t see are many hats and gloves or suits and ties.

Worship begins at 11 a.m. and lasts approximately an hour and 15 minutes.

Together we will sing songs that are considered traditional hymns accompanied by a piano or organ; often we will sing songs from around the world accompanied by bongos, a guitar, or a string quartet. Every worship service includes a time designed specifically for children. Most Sundays, but not every Sunday, one of our pastors will reflect on a scripture for about 15 minutes. We celebrate communion together once a month.

All people who come in a spirit of love are always welcome to celebrate communion with us.

For your Kids

At Oakhurst Baptist Church, we value the input and engagement of children in all aspects of our church life together. During worship, we offer an intentional “Time with the Children” message which is specifically for them. Children are always welcome to stay for worship, but we also offer childcare for children ages birth through 5-years-old during our services. Beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings, we offer classes with age-appropriate lessons for children as well as teenagers. We are committed to providing an environment that is safe, clean, engaging, and fun for all ages.

What to Wear

You’ll find everything from shorts and jeans to button-down shirts and dresses. Oakhurst Baptist Church is not about what you look like or what you wear. Dress in what is comfortable for you!
